At times we can often feel confused when it comes to where to start with healthy eating and how to make it easy so that we stay on track with it. The following three healthy eating hacks are ones I learned through trial and error and have helped me to stay healthy despite always being super busy!
I don’t know about you, but I get so focused on my work that I forget to drink water and can sometimes go a whole day with only drinking one glass of water, especially in the winter.
Then I spotted a large green water bottle at my local store and bought it. The fact that it is large and brightly coloured means it catches my attention throughout the day and reminds me to drink water and I can fill it up and take it with me when I’m on the run.
This has easily been the most effective tool for me to drink more water and stay hydrated, helping my ADD brain maintain it’s ridiculous speed and focus!
If I don’t make large meals, I can often end up skipping meals because I’m too engrossed in my work to take time out to make something to eat. It is so important to eat regularly and to eat food that is as close to it’s original state as possible.
I combat this by making a large stew, casserole, stir fry or soup for a group of people! This way I can just heat up a portion when I need to eat, add some greens (I love topping my food with chopped coriander, seed sprouts or shelled hemp seeds) and go.
You can make enough for a group of people on a Sunday, portion it up and freeze or refrigerate for the week ahead.
Another time saving tip is to make a large batch of rice and/or quinoa. That way you’re able to make your main food last longer by bulking it out with these healthy grains.
80/20 healthy eating shopping rule
When I’m grocery shopping, I try to stick to 80% shopping from fresh food aisles and 20% shopping from packaged aisles. The fresher your food is, the better it is for you. Buying pre-made and packaged food should be avoided as much as possible. Things like beans, sauces and grains of course fall into your 20% range.
Try to also to stick to minimal ingredients and recyclable packaging.

Bonus: snack on fruit.
It’s super tempting to reach for that choccie bar later on in the day for a pick me up, but believe me when I say your body will thank you if you snack on as much fruit as possible. Bananas are a much better choice than chocolate and if you mix your fruit with nuts you’ll have energy to spare all day.
Don’t be afraid of sugar in fruit, I promise you, your body knows what to do with it, it recognises it and uses it properly. There is SO much more to fruit than we have ever been taught and you can learn all about how fruit it healing for so many ailments, especially adult acne.
