One of my favourite parts of this time of year is when the leaves turn. All the beautiful colours of oranges, creams and browns mixing together, the chill in the air, the first time you slip your big cosy scarf around your neck, you know it’s time to wind down and cosy up.
I thought I’d put together a collection of home accessories to create a lovely autumnal feeling indoors where you can cosy up with soft fabrics in muted colours and while away the short days with an engaging book and many cups of tea.
Firstly, nothing says cosy like lots of scatter cushions with a velvety feel. Collect them in various textures, prints and complimentary cushions and stack them to your heart’s desire.
At this time of year, there is a lot of foraging to be done, so you’re going to need some sturdy baskets to collect your edible mushrooms, wild garlic, sloe and black berries. When you get home, you’re going to want to treat your frozen toes to a luxuriously soft rug while you stack your other baskets with chopped wood, if you have a wood burner, or why not stack a basket with fragrant pine cones? Don’t forget the draft excluders!
Now it’s time to light some scented candles, sit back and relax underneath a deliciously snug blanket with a cuppa and a snoozing pet by your side.
Clockwise from top:
- Wooden star tea light box – Wilko
- Westie mug – Laura Ashley
- Votive holder (or, you know, a cheeky Scotch wouldn’t hurt) – Wilko
- LED candle lantern – The Range
- Brass and glass lantern – Laura Ashley
- Hurricane lantern – The Range
- Scented candle – Laura Ashley
- Pine cone tea lights – Laura Ashley
- Sable (faux) fur throw – Fishpools
Now, all we need to decide is, are we going to pour a coffee, tea, scotch or port?
