OOTD: Girly With An Edge

July 29, 2014

When I saw this Hell Bunny dress on Attitude’s website I had to have it immediately! Being a pear shape with broad shoulders, A-line dresses and full skirts work on me. The sweetheart neckline makes it even more feminine but the print keeps it edgy and cool. This is definitely the kind of dress I’d wear on a day time date or a smart casual affair where I could look girly with an edge.

It’s funny, these are the first fashion photos I’ve done of myself in a while, in fact, there haven’t really been any full body photos of me in a long time and it’s interesting to experience my reaction to these photos. I love my hair; my house mate did it for me today, the day of the shoot and I spun it up into some faux victory rolls in a way I learned from a Youtuber once (you twist your hair around the base of your finger and then tuck the end under the fold). I’m just not used to seeing myself at a size 14 (UK). I was always a high energy kid with knobbly scabbed knees from climbing trees and rocks and falling off bikes and getting rough with the boys and then as a teenager and young girl I was in the clubs dancing all weekend and riding horses.

However, I am also okay with these pictures because I talk about this a lot: I am not model size (8-10) and I am not plus size (16+), I am mid-size (12-14), like the majority of British women, so then, how come we in the middle are not represented in fashion at all?

Every fashion website has the models modelling the clothes, and then a plus size section, but if the majority of your customers fall between those sizes, why not have models who represent the size of your customers?

I know for a fact that I will not look in that dress the way the model looks and then I also can’t relate to the plus size models. I guess, if someone enjoys a similar style to mine and is a similar size, they can relate to me and that’s why I’m ok with these pictures, but I would love to see more representation in fashion of women in the middle of model and plus size.

By the way, my hair is inspired by Xander Vintage who’s hair (and style) has me fangirling like crazy! Never one to do pastels, we didn’t dilute the dye and I’m totally ok with that.
