For as long as I’ve known my best friend Katey, I’ve wanted to treat her to a wonderful surprise birthday gift. Her 40th birthday turned out to be the perfect time to do just this and I booked us into The Cornwall Hotel and Spa Estate for the weekend.
I took advantage of a two-person special which included spa access, a 30min massage and dinner. A short drive to St Austell brought us to the expansive grounds of the Cornwall Hotel and Spa Estate and we took in the beautiful old mansion that has been renovated into a stately hotel.
Behind the mansion the Estate have built woodland cabins set into the hill and looking over the beautiful grounds.
Our room was one of these and we gleefully popped open a bottle of champagne and took in the sounds of silence with a few deep breaths. Now was our time to completely relax, no distractions, no responsibilities.
Unfortunately, shortly before we were to go down to dinner, we could loudly and too clearly hear the screaming cries of a child in the room next to ours. At the time I was living in a house where I had to endure this sound all day and night from my neighbours so I was adamant that I would not allow this during our stay where we wanted to relax in peace. I immediately called reception and asked if we could move rooms, explaining that we would like total peace and quiet during our stay.
Reception were understanding and moved us to a Junior suite room which was a wonderful upgrade and really made our whole weekend.
The bed was enormous and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. There may or may not be a video of me throwing a tantrum about having to leave this bed! We slept soundly like queens and woke to the stunning view from the floor to ceiling windows.
How about that view from the bath!
Dinner was delicious although I think they may have been short staffed that night as they took more than half an hour to clear our starters and another half our for our mains to arrive. We were comped free wine for this however.
There are two lounges on the ground floor furnishes in plush, cosy velvet seating arranged near crackling fire places and with a nearby bar to enjoy a drink while you read the papers or enjoy a snack.
The hotel’s spa had a beautiful indoor swimming pool we enjoyed splashing about in before visiting the sauna and steam rooms and melting under the expert hands of a far too short massage half hour.
I am so glad we were given an upgrade to the Junior Suite, if you plan on booking a stay at the Cornwall Hotel and Spa Estate, I highly recommend booking into one of the main house suites and as many massage hours as you can afford. It is a thoroughly relaxing and comfortable weekend away.
