It’s been far too long since I went to an Agricultural Show, when I was a little kid, I grew up in the countryside riding horses and even competed at our local agri show so I was really pleased to attend the Suffolk Show this year.
This was my first time going to an agri show in the UK so I was quite surprised to find myself suddenly swimming in a sea of tweed coats and Hunter wellingtons. Everyone looked ever so fancy!
The first thing I saw was this enormous but incredibly cute tractor!
But of course, the smell of food beckoned me immediately so off I went to the food tent!
I very occasionally eat meat but I would love to try some wild boar, unfortunately, I didn’t have enough cash on me to indulge so I’ll have to save it for another day.
Next on my adventure was a heavy horse contest where the judge rode each horse in turn and didn’t seem to enjoy any of them. I of course had hearts in my eyes and wanted to cuddle and ride them all!
Fine riding there Mr Judge… :-/
Look at those rumps!
I then found myself in a huge barn full of various prize winning breeds of sheep, some breeds I’d never seen before and even one I thought looked like a dog!
I think he may have smoked too much reefer…
She looked like she was straight out of a nativity play!
And then to my delight, I came upon a farrier competition and my, my were they a sight for a sore eye! 😉
Farrier’s Choice indeed!
Then we had a hunt display, showing the different horn sounds, what they mean and how the dogs respond. Something about that sound made me well with emotion! I loved how the dogs followed the horse and rider like ducklings do with their mother.
Lots of gentlemen were wearing bowler hats.
Time to check out the various beef breeds. I really love cows, they are such beautiful, calm beasts.
My other favourite farm animals are goats, they are such characters and I can’t wait to have my own herd one day.
Totally swooned over these stunning Hunter class horses, gosh I would love to own one, or four!
Ok this guy was an Australian sheep sheerer and was absolutely hilarious! He had the whole crowd gafawing with laughter and I have never seen a sheep be sheared so cleanly and quickly as he did that one.
That’s off the sheep he just sheared!
He then had them all dancing for their treats which was just too cute. Check out The Sheep Show for more details.
My camera is always finding the cutest guys…
Another hunting group competition
Tree climbing competition, I think he scaled it in 13 seconds.
My 10 year old self would have died on the spot if she saw this!
There were many well heeled country people and plenty of stalls selling them their next suit. How do I marry one of these guys? 🙂
On my way out, I passed the final display of winning animals.
Anyone who knows me knows I that I am a farm girl at heart and my dream is to have my own farm one day, hopefully a wellness farm where people can rehabilitate from their illnesses and one of the reasons why I am studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
I felt right at home at the Suffolk Show and only wish I could have been involved in some way.
