In an attempt to placate my sweet tooth without eating chocolate, I’ve devised a smoothie recipe that tastes like dessert but packs a nutritional punch!
- 1 cup coconut milk (or oat or nut milk – it’s up to you, but I prefer coconut milk)
- handful baby leaf spinach
- 1 banana
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 Tb maca powder
- 1 Tb chia seeds
I find it really filling too, so it’s a great way to tame the hunger between meals. I usually enjoy this smoothie between lunch and dinner when I get back from the gym.
Coconut milk is full of good fats, spinach full of iron and good vitamins, the banana gives you energy and boost your endorphins, mixed berries are awesome anti-oxidants, maca powder is said to raise your libido but is also awesome for menstrual pains, skin and balancing your mood and chia seeds are packed full of proteins, containing all of our essential amino acids (much like quinoa) and excellent for your digestive tract.
This smoothie is so sweet, thanks to the banana and maca powder, that you wont even know there is spinach in it! Just be sure to blend it for at least 30-60 seconds to ensure it’s really smooth.
I’ve been drinking this since I had a long brown hair!
