I’ve been on holiday in the countryside at my boyfriend’s place this week. We have been going on mini road trips visiting places and friends which means we’ve been doing a lot of driving through endless green countryside filled with trees and fields and all kinds of farm animals, but these trips usually end in another town or city filled with buildings and people and shops and traffic.

Experiencing these two places in one day made me notice the change in my mood, or, happiness level.
In the countryside, my happiness level is right at the top of truly, madly, happy. When we get into towns and cities, its hovering very, very low at the not very happy side.

Now, Im always telling people to follow their passion. As they say, do what you love and you dont work a day in your life. Ask anyone who is making a living from their passion, they love what they do and it doesnt feel like work, even on the difficult days.

For me however, Im still struggling to find that one thing that makes me want to jump out of bed everyday so I can get “to work” doing what I love.
So obviously Ive been trying to notice when I am at my happiest, and in the countryside is where I feel the most full of energy and passion to be alive.

This brought me to thinking, maybe your passion isnt just something you do, but a place you can be? Maybe the stuff that you do in the place that brings you the most happiness is part of your passion, maybe doing something isnt what its all about, but being somewhere is what brings you the highest happiness for some people.
They also say, if you want to know where your heart longs to be, take notice of where your mind wanders most often. For me, Im always daydreaming about living in the countryside, being surrounded by nature, working with nature and being a part of nature and in some way, giving back who I am for the benefit of others.

What could be your place of passion? Your happy place? And how can you design your life to become that dream so that you can live a happy life and create passionate work from that place?

The Dame

I totally understand what you are saying. I was born and grew up in a town on top of a small mountain, moved to big cities, but have found my happiness in a town by the sea. People tell me I have changed since I moved there. I love that the sea can give energy or stillness, and whether it is blue or grey it’s always beautiful
Chiara, after living in London for 8yrs, I finally moved to the sea also and my life and sanity is so much better for it!
I feel ya Dame. The stress just flows off when we get out of the city. It’s so relaxing and easier to focus.
All I’d need is internet and a work-horse of a coffee machine.
Definitely worth a try right? You can always move back.
