Happy International Women’s Day

anette bette kellowTo all the women who fight the good fight, stand up for their rights, take care of their kids, teach their sons to be good men and their daughters confidence in the face of today’s media, to all the girls who are figuring it out and to all the men who support and protect women around the world, I salute you.

Well behaved women rarely make history.

Edgy Alternative Fashion Bloggers I Love

Fashion bloggers, all sixty million of them, keep us enthralled and addicted like crack heads. However for me, it can all be a bit samey-samey.  I am not interested in the majority of fashion out there, preferring something a bit more quirky and edgy.

Greaser Girl Style - The Outsiders

I have a different style taste, part goth (love me some all black everything!), part grunge (my heart belongs to the 90′s) and part rockabilly (greaser girls for me!), I guess I could call it Greaser Goth Grunge?  Why not!

Me in March 2012 at the artist warehouse I was living in.

So I am always on the look out for alternative fashion bloggers in the UK who embody the style that ticks my boxes.  It started with Renee Ruin’s amazing Polyvore sets (you should check out her main site too) and recently I discovered a handful of new UK fashion blogger idols to drool over.

First up is Strutt.  This chick is gorgeous!  I have serious hair envy as we wear the same style hair and her untouchable ‘bitch face’ is so rock star.

I’m a little bit obsessed with the bag o’ sass that is Amy Valentine, I love her cute punky style and her personal styling twists like wearing a skirt over her Motel Rocks green sequin dress.  She also takes really great photos.

Last, but not least, Effie’s Makeup Box by make up and nail artist, Heather.  I love her fiery orange hair and her Youtube tutorials.  She also does heaps of rad giveaways ;)

Effie's Make Up Box UK Alt Fashion Blogger

Effies Make Up Box UK Alt Fashion BloggerI love that there are awesome, sassy UK fashion bloggers that I can get inspired by and shop easily through because they don’t all wear super expensive designer clothes.  The majority of big fashion bloggers always seem to be American or from Europe; like Sarah at 5inchandup (who’s gloves I photographed when I met her in February at London Fashion Week) and the stunning Fanny Lyckman (Finland and Sweden respectively), and therefor I sort of can’t relate because they model designer clothing I can’t afford.

One thing I would love for fashion bloggers to end is the same pose they all do, half turned to camera, back leg bent, head tilted to front shoulder in this sort of apologetic/shy body language as if they are slightly embarrassed to be so stylish and fashionable.  I like to see women own their swagger, revel in it, and get other people excited about owning their own image and self worth.

I’m also kinda disappointed that the very style I spent years trying to find in stores is now everywhere you look, even in street markets.  Which means the market is saturated and everyone has jumped on the grunge/rock chick bandwagon.  Where I used to (and still do) love black leather and studs, I kind of don’t want to wear it anymore because it’s currently the look du jour.

I am just hoping and praying that those god-awful Jeffery Campbell clodhopper ankle boots will die a quick death.  Perhaps I should make a voodoo doll shaped like one and stick pins in it… However, what I do love is the peplum because I suffer from “prego-belly” no matter what I eat, so peplums, along with skater skirts, hide it perfectly!

I’ve also recently discovered a host of awesome online stores, my favourite being MotelRocks.com – oh my, I have about 26 items in my wishlist there and just had to get the Motel Zoe midi dress in purple tiger print that I just died over.  Other stores I love are Missguided, boohoo.comGlamorous and NastyGal (altho NG aren’t UK based).

Do you know of any other alternative, edgy, fashion forward bloggers out there?  What’s your take on the current fashion scene?
